Arunachal celebrates 25th Statehood Day
Ahluwalia assures all help from Centre Khandu appeals for Central assistance for infrastructure development
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Arunachal Pradesh has celebrated its 25th Statehood Day with great enthusiasm on Feb 20.
Addressing a mammoth gathering at I G Park here, the chief guest of the Statehood Day celebration, the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia has assured the state Govt of all help from the Centre for all round development of the state. Stating that efforts are being initiated to accelerate development in all border areas of the state, Ahluwalia pledges to consider project proposals submitted by the state government for infrastructure development particularly in border areas like porter tracks and log bridges and drinking water facilities besides connectivity to 22 unconnected administrative centres and maintenance and construction of foot suspension bridges.
The Planning Commission will sympathetically consider all the proposals of the State Govt. to meet the developmental needs of the state, he said while adding that it is the responsibility of the Centre and the State Governments to bring development, particularly in border areas in landlocked Himalayan state.
Regarding construction of Airport, Ahluwalia also said that he would take up the matter with concerned ministry for speedy construction of Green field airport.
Referring to the initiative of the state Govt to harness the hydro potential, the
Planning Commission deputy chairman said that state Govt will able to generate
Rs 10,000 Crores revenue annually after commissioning of the various Hydro-

Festival of Arunachal: Exhibitors, booksellers doing brisk business

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The exhibitors and booksellers had a brisk business on the first two day of the Festival of Arunachal organized to mark the silver jubilee of Arunachal’s Statehood at IG Park here.
All the 67 stalls put by various SHGs, NGOs and small scale industries exhibiting
cane, wooden and bamboo craft were the largest crowd puller. According to a survey
conducted by The Arunachal Times, they alone have sold items like wooden, cane and
bamboo crafts, local ornaments, khadi products, locally made daos, silk & woolen
items, artificial flower, meet-
"Response is overwhelming and selling has been excellent so far," an excited exhibitor told The Arunachal Times. Many items were sold out on the first day itself, few have informed.
There were also reports of overwhelming response from readers and book lovers at

According to the survey, each stall is selling books worth Rs. 25,000 in average everyday. There are 75 such book stalls in total. Story books for children, books on personality development, health series, Vastu Shastra were in high demands and were selling like hot cakes, a book seller informed. Reputed book publishers, like Diamond Pocket Books, National Book Trust etc. are putting their stalls. The Book Festival organized by National Book Trust, India in collaboration with District Administration Capital Complex and Directorate of Public Library, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated by Governor Gen (Retd) JJ Singh on February 19 last.
On the other hand, business at Food Stalls was not up to the expectation. This reporter witnessed a thin attendance of visitors and food lovers in almost all the food stalls. According to an owner of such food stall, their business have been dampened to a certain extent by the International Expo organised simultaneously at the same ground. The total selling of over 60 food stalls was hardly over Rs. 7 Lakh on the first day.
There was no taker of local dishes and beverages available in menus in many food stalls till noon. However, the food stalls put by E&K group and Nocte Food stall from Deomali and few others were doing a good business. Wotok (Chicken stone fry), Nga Wih (baked fish), Kholam (bamboo rice), Jumin (distilled rice wine) were some of the special items of the Nocte Food stall.

When contacted, the Capital Deputy Commissioner Dr S B Deepak Kumar said the response of the visitors to the festival is overwhelming. He said the exhibition stall on hydro power and other various stalls including the stalls put by Polytechnic and CCRD succeeded to draw huge crowd. On the first day of the festival, the visitors thronged the festival ground till late evening, he further informed.
Students hold peace rally, decry violence in Tirap
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Tirap district, hitherto known for peace and tranquility is today
gripped by violence perpetrated by various insurgent groups. Insurgency is today
the most burning problem of the district but paradoxically it is the least talked
and discussed about among the law-
In view of prevailing situation in Tirap a huge rally was organized on Statehood Day by the students under the aegis of all Tirap Students Union at Khonsa carrying placards and banners. “Enough is enough, we want peace, say no to gun culture, stop violence etc.” rent the air.
Later a peace meeting was held at Circuit House in which students and people from all walks of life attended. All the speakers spoke for restoration of peace in the district.
The house unanimously condemned the recent firing incidents at Khonsa Village and Khonsa Town and appealed the NSCN groups to restrain from such kind of activities. The meeting also adopted resolution stating that all the representatives of Tirap district should come together to tackle the present crisis of peace and harmony in the district. Adequate security forces should be deployed in Tirap district to avoid unwanted circumstances, it said.
The meeting further resolved that Govt. should initiate programs to help the misguided youths of Tirap and the intelligence wings of security forces should be expended and made more active.

Stressing the need of cooperation between the public and security forces, the meeting also called upon the civil society to come together against violence and and also called for awareness meeting among the common people.

It may be mentioned here that a bloody turf war is going on between NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) ostensibly to expand their area of dominance for extortion.
State BJYM to launch mass rally against corruption in state
ITANGAR, Feb 21: The state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) President Doni Nich
had participated at the BJYM National Executive Meeting which was held at the Party
Head Quarter, New Delhi on Feb 18. The meeting chaired by the National BJYM President

KVK organizes Coldwater Fish Culture training
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Deomali under the sponsorship of National
Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad has organized a training programme on ‘Cold
water Fish Culture’ for the fish farmers of the district from February 17-
Thirty farmers from 15 different villages Khasa, K/Noknu, Chingkoi, Upper Chingkoi, Nginu, Ngongthong, Kolagaon, Konnu, Konsa, Jagan, Mintong, New Kothin, Chanu, Bonia and Pongkong attended the training programme.
During the five day long training, resource persons SMS ( Fisheries) R. Dutta, DFDO L. Lasa, Fisheries Officer, Deomali, P. Pillia, Fisheries Officer D. Bhattacharjya, Programme Assistant (Fisheries), KVK, Upper Subansiri Dipjyoti Bora and other imparted theory and practical training on different aspects of coldwater fish culture like suitable coldwater fish species, composite fish culture for hilly regions, culture aspects of different coldwater fish species, supplementary feeding, cure and prevention of fish disease and induced breeding.
The farmers were also given practical exposure at Fisheries Demonstration Unit, Deomali.
Earlier, in the inaugural day, Tirap District Fisheries Development Officer, L. Lassa urged the fish farmers of the district to utilize the unique aquatic resources available in hilly states like Arunachal Pradesh for Cold Water Fish culture and thereby augment the fish production of the district as well as the state.
KVK, Tirap Programme Coordinator, Dr. Narendra Kumar, also encouraged the farmers to use Coldwater Fish Culture to make Tirap district self sufficient in fish production.
AALO, Feb 21: The tiny Kesi Tali village, the ancestral home of all Tali, Tato, Tajom and Ragyom clans had a rare occasion to cheer together when a rope wire suspension bridge that connects the village with the rest was inaugurated on Feb 19.

It is an effort by the Education Minister to reach out to the teachers, students and officials to streamline the Education system in the State. ITANAGAR, Feb 21: MLA cum Parliamentary secretary, industries, Nabam Rebia visited Habia, the remotest and unconnected village of Doimukh Assembly Constituency after a 4 hour trek from Pakke Kesang via Tajar Geko on Feb 18. He was accompanied by Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu, EE PWD Tumto Kamsi, CO Sangdupota Likha Teji, DFDO James Nabam, DCC President Nabam Rana, ZPM Upper Balijan Nabam Sukia and other officials during his visit.
Before reaching Habia the team visited Sokio Sinyik, a pristine natural lake where Rebia released fingerlings brought by the fisheries Deptt, Papum Pare. This was a maiden visit of the MLA and DC Papum Pare to this remote hamlet to assess the practical difficulties faced by the villagers and as an effort towards bringing development to their doorstep.
Later speaking at a function in the evening, the MLA apprised the people of the initiatives taken by him. He informed that scheme for construction of Wire Rope Suspension Bridge over Pomi Nallah and Papum River has already been taken up with the central Government. In the meanwhile he instructed EE PWD to prepare a scheme for immediate construction a suspension bridge over Pomi Nallah as a temporary arrangement till formal sanction from the ministry. He also urged the villagers to refrain from killing wildlife and safeguard the forests. He also said that the proposal for construction of road from Habia to Pakke Kesang shall be looked into in future and informed that construction of road from Bassarnallah to Tapioso has already being taken up under NLCPR. He further added that upgradation of school at Habia shall be done on the basis of enrolment and lauded the work of Sharma, school teacher of Habia Primary School.
The Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu also spoke on the occasion and urged the villagers to take care of the flora and fauna of the area and asked them to get the trees registered with the Forest Department. First Lady inaugurates zonal level PMEGP exhibition
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Participating in the Statehood Day celebration festivity, State First Lady, Anupama Singh inaugurated the first ever zonal level Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) exhibition at Indira Gandhi Park here yesterday. State Governor Gen. JJ Singh, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, State Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu were present on the occasion along with hosts of ministers, officials and invitees.
While doing the honour, the First lady, who herself is a renowned designer and who always takes immense interest in promotion of Khadi and Village industries in the state, expressed her hope that the exhibition will have a huge impact and will provide impetus to the effort of the state government in encouraging indigenous handloom and handicraft. Dressed in traditional attires of the Adi Tribe, Singh stressed on ensuring the proper markets for indigenous crafts and textiles in the State and outside.
Arunachal Pradesh KVIB Chief Executive Officer Sukamal Deb informed that 67 stalls have being set up in the exhibition with special emphasis on products of North East region. The special feature includes display and sale of pure Khadi (Silk, Cotton, Woolen) from
North East region, village Industries, cottage and small scale industries products from NER and beyond, business hour buyer and seller meet, seminar on quality control, packaging and design development, technical session on technology and skill development, deliberation on media’s role in promoting Khandi and village industries products and promotional meet of financial institutions, Deb added.

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The Doying Gumin College, Pasighat organized a two days NSS camp at Ramro Paatang (lake) on Feb 18 and 19.

According to the Principal of the College, the NSS camping is an annual feature of the college since last five years. However, with need of the time the camp has become a part of the academic activities of the college. The first year students are compulsory to attend the program as a part of the field work on environmental studies. Each student has to submit a Field Study report. The same has to be presented in a Seminar organized just after the field work. With about moré than 250 students in the first year, the whole class has been divided into six groups and accordingly six paper presentations are done in the Annual College Environmental Studies Seminar. This year the Seminar would be done on the Feb 23 and 24. The Field work and Seminar presentation are mandatory for a student to qualify to sit in the University Examination.
One of the teacher commented that the lake is found to be totally unexplored as far as its aquatic diversity and water quality analysis are concerned. Ornithological study and study on varieties of fishes would make a good academic report with regard to the beautiful lake.
She further said that the Government Department/Agencies must take necessary steps to tap the potent of the great lake.
Training programme for drawing and disbursement officers begins
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: A week long training cum workshop on powers and functions of drawing and disbursement officers commenced in Administrative training centre, Naharlagun today under the sponsorship of DoPT, government of India.
Altogether, 29 officers from various departments and district administration holding DDO charge are attending the training programme.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural day, Account and Treasuries Director, CM Manmow calls for maintenance of work culture at all levels and suggested that to reduce unemployment in the state and to avoid financial strain persons who have trading licenses already or seek trading licenses should be given identity card and they should be treated as self employed and barred from seeking government job, he added.
He further said that if companies or industries signed MoU with state, they should be saked to give undertaking to create job for at least 100 persons. This kind of measures will certainly provide certain solution on unemployment side in the state.

Orientation Programme for Apex Bank officers
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: A week long orientation programme of branch managers and senior officers of the A.P. State Coop. Apex Bank was inaugurated by H K Shalla, Secretary cum RCS at ATI, Naharlagun today. The programme is sponsored by Regional Training Centre, Bholpur, West Bengal under the Vaidhyanathan Committee Recommendation for Recapitalization Assistance for Short Term Coop. Credit Structure. The RCS has advised bank employees to maintain strict discipline and improve work culture in professional approach to regain its lost glory. He has directed them to be sincere in attending the programme and take full advantage of the training organized by financial experts from NABARD.
Earlier, T Thongdok, MD in his key note address highlighted present status of the bank and need of the capacity building of staff. He has advised them to change their mind set for service to the poor people through promotional schemes.
B G Mukhopadhya, GM, NABARD has assured assistance for Core Banking Solution (CBS) of the bank and capacity and training for bank staff. He has suggested for community service through Farmers Club, SHG, JLG etc. M Soren and S Roy Choudhury, Faculty Members narrated the importance of the programme and stressed on reformation in bank according to the present banking scenario. NABARD supports skill development programme
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: In order to extend its outreach for livelihood promotion, NABARD has sanctioned six Skill Development Programmes (SDPs) in Kurung Kumey District for training in cane and bamboo handicrafts, handloom weaving, basic computer to be implemented by Rural Development and Heritage Society, an NGO based in Arunachal Pradesh. The Skill Development programmes will be conducted in Koloriang, Sangram, Nyapin Sarli and Palin, which will be conducted in close collaboration with District Administration, Directorate of Industries in the districts besides banks operating in the areas. The average number of trainees per programme has been restricted to 25 for effective participation.

DAPORIJO, Feb 21: The Upper Subansiri District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) organized a Free Eye camp at the District Hospital, Daporijo from Feb 16 to 20. Vandalism flayed
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: All Arunachal Youth Association (AAYA) expressed surprise over the broad day light vandalism of government vehicle of Deputy Director UD and Housing Er R D Lewi.
It appealed the authority to investigate the case properly and punish the culprits as per the law and also demanded the authority to provide security to the officer while on duty for his safety.
